Sky Blue Leadership – Leading in Unfamiliar Territories (My Takeaways #1)

A very inspiring and intriguing discussion with Julia Middleton around leading in unfamiliar territories. This took me inside my own self during such a disruptive and an unusual time.

Allow me to share my personal reflections and takeaways from this session:

Humility is a priceless trait that a real leader should grow while leading in unfamiliar territories. Recalling that I do not know it all and that real value comes from within the local context can bring the best out of you and those seeking your leadership.

Humility versus self-belief is the balance we need to seek. Your team and partners need your confidence to boost theirs. Keep the balance and radiate your Aura as a leader should do.

Inter-generational leadership is crucial. How can I influence people who are 15 years younger and 15 years older?

Working with all types of people is something we might claim to enjoy. Just pay attention to a potential blind spot that can confuse you to believe that ‘working with people like you = working with all people’.

Communication is probably what a leader should be doing most of her/his time. Whether telling stories, sharing & discussing data, or emphasizing direction. Be a good communicator!

Gossips about your leadership journey? Selective deafness is a treatment of choice.

As you proceed with living your leadership to the max, the power of turbulent networks might be more useful than the comfort of support networks!

Partnerships need to be deeper than the need for funding. Let go of the old school of fundraising.

We all witnessed the evolution of IQ, then EQ (emotional intelligence) and now it is time to mainstream CQ (cultural intelligence) into our teams and organisations. People with different passions than you are still an asset and need your leadership.
